A bitcoin investor who has been in the game since 2017 claims to have lost his life savings of 7,4 BTC to a scam a few weeks ago.
One lesson for beginners here is that even the experienced guys can make the most rookie mistake so even when they tell you something still do your own research. And another one is that if they at their level of experience can make this rookie mistake, now imagine you who is a rookie if you are not careful.
He calls himself Bitcoin Jimmy on X. This Jimmy believed he was downloading a genuine version of a Sparrow Wallet app for his iPhone from the App Store. In reality, it was fake software designed to steal crypto after you import your seed. Sadly, Jimmy fell victim to one of the oldest social engineering schemes in cryptocurrency. Somehow, Apple allowed this fake app on its platform, and Jimmy trusted it without verifying its existence on Sparrow Wallet's official website.
Another lesson, even if an app is on an apple store, DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT. App stores do not do their verifications thoroughly on apps on their platforms. They cannot be trusted. Donwoald only from the verified official website.
Another crucial lesson is that sometimes just ask questions. Just ask, someone else's may have had that experience and their response will save you from losing your money.
