what happens after a calamity? a calamity is a event that causes extreme destruction to a community an example is a typhoon which my country just recently experienced and i observed that after the typhoon has passed there seems to be higher cases of people breaking into other people's houses and it made me wonder whether it is because after a calamity people have lost a lot of their properties or money which is why they especially need it this time and this pushes them to do illegal things
do you think that there is an association between a calamity and higher cases of crime in a country?
I think you pretty much answered your question in the body of your text. A calamity like you defined it, causes destruction so when there are things that have been damaged, it means that people would have to start all over again and for those who can't would resort to stealing. Some people are so devasted by this that it's not just their physical properties that get damaged but their physical and mental health also gets affected.
During the time of calamity, the affected area becomes a wasteland and if proper attention isn't given to the place, that becomes the end.
I'd say the issue of high crime rate should be regarded as a calamitous experience because it does the same thing you mentioned in your thread. When crime isn't properly checked and stopped, it becomes a menace as people would constantly live in fear, social activities would be disrupted and eventually affecting the economy.
