Our lawmakers are debating whether to promulgate a law banning online gambling, as the present administration is concerned that the more than $700 million in revenues will be lost in taxes.
So, to prevent the government from losing huge revenues, the Central Bank has come out with these measures.
Do you think these guidelines are enough to mitigate gambling addiction?
This is a good move by the government. Under aged children will be restricted from gambling, some gamblers would be forced to be on budget, time management is addressed and options for self exclusion is well considered. This will work for gamblers who want to be responsible. But for gamblers who are already addicted, or who do not care about the government rules, they will always look for means to bypass these rules.
That is why in addition to this rules, the government should also encourage regular gambling sensitization to the general public. Sensitize their minds and also offer help to gamblers already going through gambling problems. It takes alot to keep the public sane. It will take time for result to be achieved if they remain committed.
