The US was on the same path until the current president came along, who is so unpopular, but he has not only banned the creation of CBDCs there, he has banned the use of any type, even foreign ones. With a different election result, CBDCs would have been launched in the US, and someone with the Euro CBDC could have gone there and used it to exchange or pay for goods and services. That has been wiped out.

There are more subtle ways than that: reducing the number of branches and ATMs, giving large bills by default, raising the commission for businesses that deposit cash in the bank, limiting cash payments, lowering the limits for automatic reporting to the Treasury, etc. All this while continuing to inflate the currency nonstop, which doubles the effect.
