Does this kind of transactions ever get processed?
Where does the transaction ends?
Does the chain used in transactions notifies or invalidates an address?
I haven’t made the error of sending transactions to the wrong chain but, I’m just curious in any eventuality. It’s often started that, these are likely irreversible as it’s the nature of Bitcoin transactions or cryptocurrency transactions as a whole. So, it’s best we get it right and what to do in any eventuality.
For bitcoin there is nothing more like a different network, if you choose bitcoin network any bitcoin address format you pick it should go through, but if it is a wrong address it won’t go through accept it is a valid bitcoin address and if it is a valid bitcoin address then it will go to the person having keys to that address. Technically in bitcoin you can’t send bitcoin to an invalid and wrong address because of the checksum in bitcoin addresses.
For Altcoins it is possible that the exchange will actually allow the sending of the coin but been sent to a wrong network means that the coins are lost except in some cases where the owner ask the receiving exchange for it which is possible because the exchange has the address and that coin was sent to them. But in most cases the exchange do not return the coin i could remember sending a shit coin U2U to KuCoin and the exchange only supported Ethereum chain for the coin which I wasn’t aware of and the coin was coming from its parent chain then, the coin never dropped and it was presumed lost. I know the exchange has it but it was a punishment for my negligence this is similar to send a coin not up to the minimum deposit for an exchange. It is Recieved by the exchange but never credited to the owner even after sending some extra above the minimum deposit
