Malik Beasley just got evicted from his apartment after being sued twice for failing to pay rent. He made 60 million dollars playing in the NBA. Now he’s being investigated by the FBI for sports betting and is homeless. It’s shocking to me that someone could make 8 figures and still not own a house and have enough invested to set them up for life. These players need a finance guru.
Yeah, a guy earning that much could have afforded a house or at least paid rent. But nah, he didn’t, maybe he really was into gambling. If he doesn’t have a gambling addiction, then how come he still has financial problems with all those earnings? That’s the only explanation I can think of. Poor guy, he didn’t manage his finances well, and now he’s in an even worse situation because of it. Right now, if he doesn’t play next season, playing overseas is his only choice. With his issues, even playing overseas is a question.
I don't want to rub it in, but I do agree that earning millions and then you can't even afford to buy a house? Something is not adding up, although maybe he will have houses in other cities as he had travelled on different teams. But not paying the rent is something that only him can answer like where is the money?
Overseas though might be a different case, maybe there are still teams that will get him despite the pending case or even if he is found guilty. Maybe that is the only way out for him right now. There are a lot of precedent already of players playing in other league just to continue with their careers and obviously they are still be paid handsomely by teams in millions of dollars.
