Our lawmakers are debating whether to promulgate a law banning online gambling, as the present administration is concerned that the more than $700 million in revenues will be lost in taxes.
So, to prevent the government from losing huge revenues, the Central Bank has come out with these measures.
Do you think these guidelines are enough to mitigate gambling addiction?
As I see it, only the first and the second measures can make some difference, but all of them can be bypassed. Not to mention that the stricter the rules, the greater the willingness to participate. History shows that prohibition, most of the time, brings opposite results from those that a government expects. So, I seriously doubt that this will prevent people from gambling or from being addicted.
