Congratulations to Crystal Palace for winning this year’s community shield trophy, they have gone against all odds to defeat Liverpool after defeating Manchester City to win the FA cup trophy last season. I must commend Oliver Glasner for a great job with this Palace team and the goalkeeper Dean Henderson for his heroic performance to help Palace achieve this milestone.
The way the game started, I thought Crystal Palace had no chance of winning against an atomic Liverpool. That’s how it felt in the first 10 minutes or so. But as the game went on, Crystal Palace remained calm and determined to make the most of their chances. And Mateta — what a player. Strong, with a great sense of positioning, and calm under pressure. I honestly don’t know how he’s still at Crystal Palace.
When playing against big teams like Liverpool it is almost normal everyone will expect that Liverpool will be on the winning side but Crystal Palace on the other hand is not a small team to over look, they only did not look like they are as strong as they should, the calm composure with which Crystal Palace did played the game, sent across a message that they may have something up their sleeves but because Liverpool is the big boy here, less attention was given until the whole game cumulatively ended in the favour of Palace.
