I’m talking about the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, MLS, and global football (soccer) leagues. If you’re not new to sports betting, I’m sure you’ve heard or read speculations that some games might be rigged. But since these are major leagues with billions of dollars at stake, if the industry were to be exposed, it could collapse. That’s why no one big ever gets caught, only players or referees who could just be the fall guys.
If it were a major league, such as the NBA, Premier League, La Liga, or other popular leagues, such cases might not occur, as these leagues have much stricter standards of regulation, oversight, and professionalism, which help protect their integrity and credibility. In smaller leagues, however, the reason so many controversial cases and instances of game manipulation arise is that their transparency and regulations are less well-maintained, making it easier for cheating and match-fixing to occur. And because of this, betting on smaller leagues carries a much higher risk than betting on bigger leagues, due to the greater uncertainty and potential for match manipulation.
