I just checked the fixture. The opening week is actually pretty good. Arsenal will play away game with Manchester United. It'll be a good test right at the start of the season. Arsenal have been dominating Manchester United for quite some time. Last season Manchester United were already very poor. They lost almost half of their matches. This time they'll want to start with a clean slate.
It will be a big match for Arsenal and Manchester United, firstly it's a traditional big clash between them since era of Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger many years ago. Secondly, it's a first big test for their quality and capability to fight and achieve their targets in this season. With Arsenal, it's the title while with Manchester United it's a position in top four.
Time flies so quickly, and the new Premier League season is just around the corner. Meanwhile, regarding the opening week's matches, the match between Manchester United and Arsenal will be the most exciting. On paper, Arsenal are certainly favored to win, even though Manchester United will be the host. Furthermore, the Aston Villa versus Newcastle match is also worth anticipating, because both teams have almost equal strength.
In theory, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Tottenham are also likely to secure three points in their respective opening matches. However, surprises could still happen, considering the squad overhauls carried out by almost all the contenders. Pre season tour matches may be useful in predicting the outcome.
Premier League is a league with many big, rich and ambitious clubs so the league title competition is not between two competitors but among several competitors. In this season, competitors likely include Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea with possibility of one or two underdogs like Newcastle United or Aston Villa. I don't consider Manchester United and Totteham Hotspur as potential underdogs with issues they had last season and not too good preparations in this summer.
