But the team has more players than it should be on the field (yes-yes, I know about Bench players)
My question is when should I pick the scheme for the next game? When exactly should I decide who is going on the field?

You have untill Friday August 15th at 18:30 to set and save your team. GW1 deadline can also be found ontop your team sheet. You can decide to save your best lineup today to avoid deadline deliema or wait till after Thursday to get some more team News and injuries updates.
I wanted to save my lineup, but I could not figure out how to do this. I can see that my team automatically is shown by the scheme 4-4-2. But I would like to use 3-5-2 scheme for the first week. How exactly can I do this? I believe, my mid-defenders and forwards are more important that defenders.

Sub a midfielder for a defender and it will go to 3-5-2 formation.
