In their last friendly game before the start of the season Leverkusen have lost to Chelsea 2-0. The game was a total dominance by Chelsea with ball possession of 70% and 24 shots on goal (9 on target) Vs. Leverkusen's only 4 shots (2 on target).
Judging by this game alone, things are not looking very bright for Ten Haag's team.
They further strengthened their squad in the recent days by completing acquisition of goalkeeper Janis Blaswich (Leipzig) and right winger Ernest Poku (AZ Alkmaar). We'll see if that will make any difference.
Tomorrow they are playing against SG Sonnenhof Großaspach (a Regional League club) in the first round of the DFB Pokal. Anything other than a convincing win by Bayer will be a red flag.

Ten Hag is lucky that Bayer plays at home against relegation contenders Hoffenheim in the first round. It would be hard to imagine an easier start. But then there will be Werder away and Eintracht at home - these are serious games that will help us understand what the team is capable of. At the moment, bookmakers rate Bayer as a confident top-2 favorite. I usually trust the bookies but I think Ten Hag has a lot of potential to surprise  Roll Eyes
Leverkusen will play Sonnenhof in the German Cup today. This match won't be a tough one for them. I expect them to win comfortably. There will also be a final between Stuttgart and Bayern, which will be Bayern's last tough match of the preseason. Stuttgart want to win the Super Cup. They'll give Bayern a tough time. However, considering the difference between the teams, I think Bayern will win.
