Wow, am amazed at the technical brilliance. You can imagine computing all these manually. So I thought previously. But it's clear now. We learn everyday. Thanks for the insight.
Yep. You can read back through the thread. In the beginning, there were several times that DirtyKeyboard had to train us to make sure taht we were putting our reports in a proper format so that his script would pick them up, and sometimes there were user errors and other times, DirtyKeyboard figured out ways to change some of the ways that his script picks up our reports in order to allow for the errors that we might make, and surely another thing that he changed was to only allow new members by his including their name as being eligible, which helped to minimize the ability for a brand new member to come into the thread and submit some numbers that would screw up the table averages and counts.
In recent, months DirtyKeyboard has not been having to tell us to make changes, and there are not as many errors as there were in the earlier days... So, yeah, I think that it is a pretty ingenius contribution that helps to motivate to have our pushups published on a daily basis to include any updates that we make and/or to still count us in the overall results even if we might end up getting put on the bench if we don't submit a report for 30 days. This thread would likely have had not been near as popular were it not for the efforts of DirtyKeyboard to create the script, to trouble shoot it and to keep it going on a daily basis for right around a year and a half.
About a year and a half ago, DirtyKeyboard also wrote, troubleshooted and tweaked from time to time, another script that started running on
the top 20 days of bitcoin's trade-weighted average thread (which is really the top 100 trade-weighted days), and so that script publishes on about a daily basis too.. and he included several other currencies besides just the USD/BTC pair and also a few categories of other interesting daily-update information.
And secondly, that members reports are voluntary, and if one wants to appear on the table, then Making report is necessary. I got that too. I was just thinking that keeping a daily report will help encourage others too to keep on pushing as we watch other grow. But it's clear it still goes down to individuals and what they really want, either to report or not, and that's pretty cool.
Yeah.. even though from time to time, there has been a little bit of drama in this thread and then another thread or two that were made to complain about this thread, the submitting of the pushup reports has been voluntary and on the honor system since we cannot verify that the pushup reports are truthful.... which sometimes members have chosen to explain their pushups or to show some kind of evidence to help to support their claims about the pushups that they are doing, which is also voluntary, including that some members had also chosen to show photos of themselves doing pushups or even changes in their physique, which I personally don't consider to be necessary, yet guys are free to choose to post that kind of information if they want.
By the way, I am thinking that I am not going to post another pushup report until my pushups add up to 123,456, which is maybe another 5 days from now.. .. that is my tentative plan. there had been some times that I was posting my pushups every day and then other times that I would post every few days.. Sometimes it can be a bit inconvenient to post every day... at least for me, and some other guys will sometimes have considerable gaps in their posting frequency.. which seems to all be in the spirit of voluntariness.. but at the same time, there could be questions about whether the guys are doing the pushups if they are not posting their pushup reports on a daily basis.
