Girona lost their first home leg 3-1, with Rayo clearly ahead. Girona had a poor start to La Liga. After a fantastic season two years ago, they've become an average team.
Rayo Vallecano is a team that often surprises the big teams in La Liga, so their victory over Girona was actually quite understandable. On the one hand, Girona isn't exactly a remarkable team, and we saw that last season. Rayo have had a very good start to the season, and I hope they can be a top-four contender this season so Rayo Vallecano can play in the Champions League next season. As for Girona, I just hope they don't get relegated this season so they can still play in La Liga next season.

It's a shame that Girona is different now, and their strength isn't the same as it was a few seasons ago, when they could always compete with the big teams. Beating Girona wasn't easy for any team. However, they've been playing poorly at the start of the season, and this defeat has undoubtedly disappointed Girona fans, as they couldn't provide a good gift as hosts.

But if you think about it, it's understandable that Girona lost to Rayo. Rayo played well last season, and there's certainly potential for Rayo to improve. Rayo could secure a Champions League or Europa League spot, provided they win a lot. Personally, I can only hope Girona doesn't get relegated this season. However, given his performance, I think Michel needs to be careful, as if Girona's performance doesn't improve, it could put them at risk of relegation.
