Draw is a better result for Villa instead of get a lose at their home game. They played quite well in this game, but a red card gave them so much pressure. There's nothing they can do except keep consistently defend, and push the game to draw. In the end, they clearly save one point from this game.
Although i'm still seeing it as a lose consider they have lose two points in home game, it's still better than get nothing.
They might be winning this game if their player would not get a red card. Not a good day for them.
A draw was certainly better off for Aston Villa as they had struggled a bit in the game. As to your opinion that they would have won the game if not for the red card gotten by the Villa player, that's not actually true. Newcastle was on the offense and with the pressure mounting, Konsa took one for the team by denying a clear goal scoring opportunity and got sent off with the red card.
I guess Konsa literally saved his side and got a draw out of it. Much better than a loss.
