Obviously, since the selection of players becomes a political selection, that was exactly the time when things went south with our national team football success, Though I can't vividly recall this scenario back then during the time of "Odewinge" a certain player who was selected because his uncle or a relation is holding a political post in the NFF then, and leaving the player who truly qualified and talented to go to that world cup, which left the social media bursted into arguments.

This isn't a news, that's how things has always been done in the country, qualified players are being ignored because of the connections the non qualified ones have. A typical example is with players like Iwobi who has been getting regular calls to play for the national team even when he hasn't had a good season. Although Iwobi is a decent player and has contributed his best to the national side but he isn't that good to be getting called up always. Until we start to differentiate between players with connection and players with quality, our national side will still be unbalanced. This is also why we go for coaches that we can control and not those that'll do their jobs well. The Nigerian system is affecting everything including the sports.
