Chelsea could perform well in the Champions League this year. They won the Conference League last year and defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the summer tournament to win the title. There's serious expectation from them for next year's competition in both the English Premier League and the Champions League. They haven't won their first match in the Premier League. I'm really curious to see how they'll do in the Champions League. I expect them to advance at least one round.
I was still impressed by Chelsea's draw yesterday because Crystal Palace isn't a weak team that can be expected to lose easily. But despite that Chelsea still control over the match, the players selfishness prevented them from securing a victory. But that was their first Premier League match, I believe they'll perform better going forward. My confidence in Chelsea's potential to make a great impact in both the Premier League and Champions League stems not only from their previous performances but also from the talented young players that make up their squad.
It's easy for Chelsea to play a team in other leagues than teams in EPL. I thought that Chelsea will start this season in a grand style and win three consecutive matches but they failed to win their first match. From the look at their performance yesterday, Maresca needs to work more on the team to stable their performance. Let it not be that they will be very strong in one match and become weak in three to four matches.
My expectations for Chelsea is to win five or four straight games, and even as Crystal Palace was aggressive during the game, Chelsea still created more scoring opportunities than them. However, Chelsea's weakness in the attacking line and midfield was a problem yesterday only Cucurrela impressed me. I've noticed Chelsea struggled against weaker teams than strong teams, and if they want to compete for the Premier League and Champions League titles, they must improve and take advantage of weaker teams to increase their points on the table, as Manchester City did with Wolverhampton.
