Even statistically, Atletico Madrid were superior in all aspects and should have won the match. however, Simeone made a blunder with his substitutions, which disrupted the rhythm of the game, left the midfield vulnerable, and allowed many unchallenged crosses. this gave Espanyol the chance to capitalize on their opportunities. it serves as an important lesson for Simeone as he must anticipate the impact of every tactical decision and work on improving the team’s efficiency.
Sometimes substitutions are considered a blunder simply because of a loss - but I believe Diego Simeone made them to improve the game's efficiency and open up more chance to score more than just one goal. In the end - we all understand that in football, the team that dominates the game doesn't always win. Atletico Madrid's loss was certainly unexpected, but they couldn't avoid it, despite Diego Simeone's efforts.

I just checked the standings - apparently Barcelona are top with 3 points and have scored 3 goals in their first game. Atletico Madrid have had a less than satisfactory start to the season - not terrible, but losing is often considered a bad thing. They still have plenty of chances as they have 37 games left - it's only the start of the season, so it won't be decisive.
