Because of economic downturn in the world, most people have become jack of all trades and master of non. learning skills and not getting a mastery of them because they are testing waters on which of them will eventually pay the bills. I have a friend who during her spare time learnt soap making, baking, sewing yet she's not making money off these skills.
There is a figure of speech:
Jack of all trades, master of none. I think that it's better to be a master of something rather than to be a jack of all trades. When you try to learn many things, you know nothing in the end. When I have a company and I'm looking for a front-end developer, which person will I hire, the one who spent 10 years in front-end development or the guy who spent 5 years in UI/UX and 5 years in front-end? I'll hire the one who dedicated his life to front-end, I'll hire someone else for UI/UX, who also dedicated his life to that. Masters of all trades, i.e. the person who spent 5 years in UI/UX and 5 in Front-End, is a good choice for those who doesn't value quality much and prefer to save money. In the end, the master of one trade earns more than the jack of all trades because big companies value quality when they make billions.
