This was a surprising outcome. Sunderland is new to the Premier league platform . West Ham have not performed well in the last season. Even then , West Ham were considered favourites against Sunderland. But Sunderland won the match. And won by a big margin of 3 -0. West Ham's defence is very weak this season as well. And we understood this in the first match. If West ham wants to stay in the top 10 of the table , then they will definitely have to strengthen their defence. Otherwise , we will see West Ham in a position close to the relegation zone this season as well.
Sunderland really surprised us with their amazing performance. It was unbelievable that Sunderland could beat West Ham by such a large margin. Sunderland are a new team in the Premier League and West Ham are not a strong team but West Ham were the favourites to win in terms of Premier League experience. But their weak defence is making them lose to the new team Sunderland. Although West Ham are unlikely to do well in the Premier League, I would definitely like to see them improve a bit from last season, for that they will definitely need to strengthen their defence and fight for a top 10 position. Sunderland was once a great team, so it wasn't surprising when they returned to EPL and secured a convincing victory over WestHam in their first match. Realizing that to play and stay in EPL they needed to be strong, Sunderland spent a lot of money in the recent transfer window to bring in quality players like Granit Xhaka and several others who have made Sunderland even better.
So looking at Sunderland's performance in their first match it wasn't that surprising especially since West Ham hadn't shown any significant improvement after last season's poor showing. With this first performance, Sunderland is confident they will stay in the Premier League, and perhaps even compete for a top 10 finish. Sunderland's next match is against Burnley, and I'm confident they'll get three more points.
