In 2019, United Kingdom implemented a whistle to whistle ban on gambling advertising. Basically no gambling ads can be shown 5 minutes and 5 minutes after a sporting event to avoid kids and or other vulnerable people to see gambling ads when watching a big sporting match. As a gambler, what would you have felt about this? Especially if you were betting on the very same sporting match? Do you think that this was effective in reducing gambling rate in the country?
Reading about it and taking a first glance on those measures, it would seem to me there are rather not effective, because people will continue to look those advertisements, regardless of their age, but I am sure authorities of the United Kingdom did some research and concluded people who are fairly young pay attention to advertising content being displayed on the televisions up to five minutes after the match is over. After all, there must be a reason for them to be so specific on the time for them to restrict casinos and betting bookies to place their ads on TV, though.
I am neutral about it, and if this restriction helps to keep teens away from gambling, so be it.
