In 2019, United Kingdom implemented a whistle to whistle ban on gambling advertising. Basically no gambling ads can be shown 5 minutes and 5 minutes after a sporting event to avoid kids and or other vulnerable people to see gambling ads when watching a big sporting match. As a gambler, what would you have felt about this? Especially if you were betting on the very same sporting match? Do you think that this was effective in reducing gambling rate in the country?
Six years have passed since its implementation, and its ongoing effectiveness suggests it should have been adopted in our country.
But I don’t see this becoming effective in reducing the gambling rate; those who are into gambling already will just ignore it. To reduce gambling addiction, it should be restrictive and targeted to those who are hooked on gambling.
The whistle-to-whistle ban effectiveness is country-dependent; we don’t have something like this in our country, but even if we had it, addition will continue to propagate because of these greedy influencers who just take money and promote gambling as a get-rich method.
