Real Madrid opened the new season with a victory. The goal came a little late, but Xabi Alanso still won on his debut. Despite being top scorer last season, Mbappe was criticized for his lack of trophies. Real Madrid scored with a penalty from Mbappe, but there were no other goals in the match. Without the penalty, they might not have scored, as they were under attack and pressure, but Osassuna defended well.
I don't think they played well. They won and got the 3 points, which is what matters. But they're not sending out good signals for the future. Osasuna didn't pose any threat to them. Despite that, they couldn't score in the game. If it weren't for the penalty, they might not have scored at all. Osasuna defender gifted them the penalty and the 3 points with a simple defensive mistake. Why would you slide tackle to Mbappe when there were no danger in the box?
Osassuna could be considered to be one of the headstrong mid teams in the La'liga and I had expected that they would give Real Madrid a hard time even if Real Madrid might win the match. I recall they were same team that trashed Barcelona 4:2 in their first leg last season in September, it was in their second leg that Barcelona managed to win them with a lone goal. So it was very likely that without that unnecessary tackle on Mbappe that led to the penalty, Real Madrid wouldn't have scored any goal and the match would have been a goalless draw game.
