Same way sounds can make someone an irresponsible gambler if they don't caution themselves. The Slot machine has lots of sounds that can get stuck in your mind especially the sound it makes when you win. There is this story about a man who is trying to be a responsible gambler on how he used to go to bed thinking about that winning sounds that comes from the slot machine, he just can't wait to be live facing the slot machine and anytime he is not facing the machine the sounds still lingers in his mind. The first step to his recovery was how he started to handle the slot machine sounds.
Gambling is not the Dark angel but is how the gambler acts. Give a kid an iPad and let them watch their favorite cartoons the let that sound affect them that they don't want to do anything else than watch it and it can affect their health, social behavior and interactions.
Every thing you have said here is simply the truth, sounds play a very big role in our minds, much more than we ourselves can imagine, I remember that in my house, when my children wants to watch cartoon and I am busy and doesn't want to be disturbed by the sound of the cartoon, I will turn off the volume of the cartoon and let the children watch the picture only, the little ones will start crying and calling on me to turn up the sound, which is to show that without the sound, the cartoon is not enjoyable to them.
It is true that the sound of a slot machine can indeed affect a gambler mentally and psychologically, this is one of the reasons why when I am gambling, I usually turn off the sound of the slot game or casino game (which ever I am playing) because I find this more advantageous or more beneficial than when the sound is turned up, aside not to get to used to the sound, turning it off also helps save my device battery and I can play for longer when there is no electricity available to charge the device.
