I believe that what keeps a gamer healthy is precisely having other priorities that take up space in life. When there are more important things, like family, friendships, or even activities that bring personal satisfaction, gaming ends up in its rightful place: a form of leisure. Perhaps the secret lies in knowing how to balance one's time and not letting it become the sole source of pleasure.

This is a very good point that you raised.

Just to reiterate, gambling addiction stems from that desire to win huge amounts of money on their end. The reason on why some people fall into this trap is because they also need to win that amount of money due to various reasons (e.g. financially struggling, different priorities, etc.). But if you have a healthy and balanced lifestyle where every activity is divided and prioritize equally, then you can avoid falling into addiction in gambling with this kind of setup.

But does this balance come more from individual discipline or from the support of those around us?

I do submit that an individual's discipline is heavily influenced in his external environment.

To give you an example, there had been studies where it showed that children who grew in a destructive household and environment are most likely to be affected with trauma that effectively infects their mental health. Applying it to gambling, if you have a healthy household, then it is less likely that you would fall into addiction in general.
