Partnerships and sponsorships from betting platforms have opened more revenue sources to the industry...
That's it... the only impact of sports betting on the sport is more money. But there are rules & regulations, and in some countries, laws are stricter:
-Italy 🇮🇹
Since 2019, gambling companies have been banned from sponsoring football kits, stadium names, or even appearing on TV ads. That’s why Serie A clubs no longer have betting brands on their shirts.
-Spain 🇪🇸
Since November 2020, shirt sponsorships by betting companies are banned under the Royal Decree on Gambling Advertising. Clubs had to cancel long-term deals (e.g., Valencia with Bwin).
-Netherlands 🇳🇱
From July 2025, shirt and sports sponsorships by betting companies are banned.
We need to be aware that sports betting platforms don't invest in sports because they love it... they do it because it's the best advertising for them. At the end of the day, it's all just business.
Over the past few decades, betting companies have grown enormously, I guess we can say the internet helped a lot. Today they are available 24/7, anywhere in the world. Their offers have also become much more advanced... There are so many markets and betting options that it's almost unbelievable. You can literally place a bet on almost anything that might happen during a sporting event. We can say they are evolving, but their impact on sport is just money they pour into it just for the sake of more visibility & self-promotion.
