Yes politics and sports mostly mix especially in big competitions like India-Pakistan match. But many people wish politics would stay out of sports that is rarely case. Major sporting events have huge public interest and national pride which makes them platform for political statements. Your observation about vested interests is also popular and high revenue sports like cricket get more political and business attention than other sports because of money and media coverage involved. So wanting to separate two is good idea reality is much more complicated.

What I am saying is that people who would have supported this event if they were in power, end up opposing it only because they are in opposition. Also, Jay Shah is the ICC chief now, and this is yet another reason for them to oppose this tournament. Unless there is a parliamentary act prohibiting all sports events between India and Pakistan, I am not going to support their demands. Mobocracy cannot be a determining factor for scheduling sports events.
