Choosing between a job and running your own business is not just a financial decision, but also a question of managing your time and energy. A salary provides stability but limits your freedom to make decisions; a business offers opportunities but also doesn't guarantee income and involves a risk of losing everything.
I'm not a business kind of person, I would not want to do something for profit. I am okay working for others, as long as I agree with the mission. It doesn't bother me that there is someone I report to, and as I tend to work in civic sector and in education, there is plenty of freedom for me on what to focus on and how to approach my tasks. There's also this very decent option of being self-employed, which I've tried in the past. I enjoyed it, but I currently prefer working at an organisation I'm currently at because it provides more opportunities for making an impact and comes with its own resources and good colleagues.
