There is what we call self-conviction. There is no amount of suggestions/advice you will give to an addicted gambler for him to quit gambling that will make him quit unless he has self-conviction or should I say self-realization. Addictions is something that is hard to deal with. Most people go to rehab and after some time, go back to do the same thing they were admitted for addiction. You are right, you just hit the nail on the head by stating this two factors : self conviction and self realization. Let me throw more light on it : This is the actual feelings that come to you after gambling might has finished dealing with you, stripping you of all you have ever worked for in life and left you with nothing before your eyes will now open to see the damages and lose it has caused you, and that gambling addiction is indeed bad then you will be forced to stop gambling by your own self.
