MetaMask introduces login to crypto wallets via Google and Apple ID
MetaMask has introduced a new authorization feature for crypto wallets using personal Google or Apple accounts.
Now users will be able to log in without having to manually store and enter a 12-word seed phrase.
The feature combines familiar Web2 authentication with advanced cryptographic methods — threshold pseudo-random functions with oblivion and Shamir secret sharing. This ensures that private data cannot be accessed separately.
Key features of the innovation:
🔑 Control remains with the user — private keys and seed phrases are generated locally, and neither MetaMask nor Google/Apple have access to them.
📱 Recovery on different devices — login requires a social network + a unique user password.
🛡️ Reduced risk of errors — users will no longer lose crypto access due to a lost seed phrase or unreliable backup.
🚀 Web2 → Web3 bridge — familiar login mechanics become part of the decentralized world.
💬 Do you think this will become a mass solution for attracting new users to Web3? Will it weaken confidence in the idea of "complete independence" from third-party services?
