Of course, Mourinho's dismissal was due to his failure to lead Fenerbahce to qualify for the 2024/2025 Champions League league phase, a 1-0 aggregate defeat to Benfica in the playoff round was the reason Fenerbahce management terminated their cooperation with Mourinho. It seems Mourinho magic is starting to become ineffective in modern football, before joining the Turkish club, he was also fired by AS Roma in early 2024. Mourinho is not the first person to be sacked at the start of the 2025/2026 season. Previously, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was also fired by Besiktas after failing to qualify for the UEFA Conference League phase.

I haven't seen much of Mourinho at Fenerbahce.  But I don't think he's too bad. Last season they finished second in the league. But the defeat to Benfica and failure to qualify for the Champions League meant that this was the limit of the management's patience. It is reported that Mourinho recently criticized the club's board, transfer policy, and the quality of the squad. So I think the club also has the right to dismiss him because they are dissatisfied with Mourinho.

Maybe Fenerbahce's expectations for this qualifier were too high. If they are honest to themselves, I think they should realize that it is not like they should have beaten Benfica easily. It was supposed to be a close game with the worse end for Fenerbahce. Mourinho could probably not care less. I think he accepted his position at Fenerbahce because he was offered a great contract and that includes that getting fired pays big time for him. Failures are immediately credited to the coach, but there is only so much a coach can do with team that is limited in quality. If you compare player by player, Fenerbahce isn't stronger than Benfica.

I wonder what Mourinho's next club will be or whether he considered retiring. It's possible he is going to show up in Saudi Arabia very soon.
