This is making me very much afraid everyday because you don't know who to trust anymore when it comes to Bitcoin. If the law enforcement and people who swore to protect lives and properties will constitute serious threat to people, who then should we believe? At some point one would need to mention Bitcoin such as in the case in question where the person needed the services of others to recover his Bitcoin. I don't know what he did wrong in the entire story and how the police officers and their accomplices got to know about the Bitcoin before planning the kidnapping incidence. This is a wake up call for people to keep their Bitcoin activities private.

This real-life story creates realization that no one can be trusted whether it’s fiat or bitcoin. While government officials are corrupt, but these security officers are also taking crimes silently to satisfy their greed for instant wealth. And this is a threat for everyone here, bitcoin or non-crypto investors.

Protect yourself and your privacy. If there are information that needs to be filtered, then secure its privacy. You don’t have to tell-all and regret later, you don’t know that opens opportunities for others to scam or plan an attack on you.
