I was also worried that Real Madrid wouldn't win Mallorca yesterday because after Mallorca took a surprising lead through a corner kick in the first half, they played with full force and tried to increase their lead to 2:0.
I think Mallorca didn’t stand a chance against Real Madrid. The fact that they managed to score first didn’t help them, except that they could have tried to play defensively as a whole team to hold the lead. But since it was just the beginning of the match, that didn’t make much sense. Real could have won by a bigger margin, but two goals were canceled due to offside and another one due to handball. VAR helped Mallorca in this, but it was still enough for Real to win.
That early Mallorca goal just woke Madrid up... There was no way they were gonna park the bus for 80+ minutes and actually survive, that’s suicide against a team like Real.
Honestly, Madrid could’ve made it ugly if not for VAR bailing Mallorca out a couple of times. Two offsides and a handball... could’ve easily been 4–1 by the end.
At the end of the day, it’s business as usual, Real take the 3 points, everyone else just happy they didn’t get blown out worse.
