That's the game of football. Many sports commentators consider Paris Saint-Germain, with its squad featuring Messi and Neymar, to be among the most serious contenders for the Champions League title. And let's not forget that Mbappé was also on that team. While such a strong Paris Saint-Germain couldn't win the Champions League title, the first year Mbappé left the team, when everyone expected a decline in performance, Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League. That's why I love the UCL. It's truly difficult to predict.
The champions league is an entertaining football because of its unpredictability. It doesn’t most time matters how strong a team is amongst other teams in the competition, to your surprise, they may be the first to be eliminated from the competition. I love this example of Paris Saint-German you gave, they were in fact so confident as a team to win the champions league that season but to our surprise they didn’t even make it to the semifinals. We just have to keep guessing the best team to win the champions league trophy, but in the end, the best team amongst the best teams will win it.
It's also worth noting that they faced a difficult fixture in last year's championship. We saw Paris Saint-Germain consistently eliminate English teams in the finals and then put on a show against Inter. In reality, this wasn't a simple championship. They eliminated Liverpool, beat Manchester City before that, eliminated Arsenal, and won against Aston Villa. They won the Champions League by coming through a very difficult qualifying group. I don't know what they can do this year, but there's nothing stopping them from winning the Champions League title again.
This is the champions league competition and you can’t just say a team will win it from this early stage when we haven’t seen what other teams have got to show this season. They have been good from last season till now, but we can’t say or see what they got to show this season in the UCL or what their opponents got to show against them to stand a chance to prevail against them this season also, so I can’t believe and trust them fully to win it again this season. They need to prove it and that can only be known when the UCL begins and we see it past through the group stage games to the knockout phase of the competition.
