What really makes a gambler lose? Is it greed? Well it is the illusion of control. Illusion of control leads to continued gambling and the more a gambler plays the more the casinos win, right? As a gambler, you should be able to identify these illusions so you can at least get a hold of yourself.

We often think, deep down, that we can control how we win. No matter how many proof we are presented with that the casino always wins we always think that we can overthrow this theory that applies to everyone. Then it gets justified when we actually win so we will continue playing thinking we can actually decide when to win.

If you get statistical and logical, you will remove these thoughts and you will not become overconfident or superstitious.

It's actually not the thought that we can decide when we can win or we can beat the house, but the illusion that makes us or most gamblers lose more is that they feel deep inside, after each loss, that the next bet might bring them a big win, and this thought is continuous, especially for those who don't have any control over their mind and aren't able to not get influenced by their thoughts. So they do whatever their brain asks them for, and this thought of the next might be it, which makes them gamble excessively and lose large amounts of money.

One could have lower losses if they simply keep betting, but what some people do on top of that is that they keep increasing their bets, thinking that if they get a win, it should be able to recover their money and give them some profits as well, but they are too blind to realize that the casino is basically draining their account, and they are not going to be able to recover whatever they are losing right now because what's happening right now will happen later as well, and will happen every time they gamble, that's just how gambling works.
