New to the platform and as a beginner in crypto I have been wondering over the past few weeks whether or not Pi will become a very valuable and reliable crypto currency or the other way round.
Pi appears overhyped at the moment in my opinion based on research. Its value today is more about hope and community size than real-world application.

You've already done your research, and I couldn't agree more. Hope and enthusiasm will eventually fade if they lack use cases and industry contributions.
The hype started when it was launched seven years ago. They are still at it, but they should have stopped and moved forward to build usability. Instead, their holders are mostly hoping for another big pump to dump their shares. The community should be promoting its use case. Not its price, a coin cannot stay in the market with only hype to back it up.
