Conor McGregor has officially announced his intent to run for President of Ireland. I person my don’t think he will be able to get elected but I do appreciate his politics and hope that he doesn’t hurt his own cause by taking votes from others from his party who might have had an actual chance to win. I'm not at all familiar with political affairs in Ireland, but I truly hope they have a more serious person that could properly represent the Irish people and address the mass immigration problems (among others).
The question is if he has the necessary political backing to run for the office. I believe he would need to be nominated by at least 20 of the parliament members.
As for taking the votes from other candidates, I think voting in Ireland allows for multiple-choice voting, where you can rank candidates by preference, so it shouldn't be that much of a problem (although it would still have some effect).
