Because all there focuses are on gambling, when you come across this kind of people. "all you need is to counsel them" because it's beneficial
It depends on your relationship with this kind of person. If it were a random guy I met in a casino, I wouldn’t even counsel or give him advice, as I don’t know his temper or character; it’s his own business.
If he is someone close to me and he trusts me, then I will try to give him the best advice that I can provide so he can ease up on his addiction. A person needs to trust you first before they will listen to your advice; you can only advise someone who trusts you or asks you for advice.
In my experience, even the person knows you and you know him very much and he trusts you, if he's not willing to ease his gambling addiction, there is nothing you can do. Especially if that person did not come to you to ask for advice, it just doesn't work, no matter how much advice you give them.
I'm speaking to my experience because I had a friend whom I'm close to, but now he's estranged due to the overwhelming debts he incurred, and he cannot pay it anymore. I gave him advice, although he didn't ask for it, and it just did not work.
