I believe there are more gamblers than drinkers. They should really change that idea.

People drink if they can afford it or beg for it but people gamble so they can afford it (cash) or afford more of it. I hope you got my drift there? In today's world, poverty is ravishing a lot of nations and I believe that explains what you observed – that there are more gamblers than "drinkers". If things were a lot more easier for people, I doubt the upsurge in gambling activities would be this way.
But it's a traditional thing that is carved in people's minds, and up until now, even a gambler would classify another gambler as a bad person, even though they are both doing the same vice.
Yeah, I understand that part. It goes to show that expression – even among thieves, there's honour. We will always find good people in bad habits or bad people in good habits.
