Nepal has ordered a nationwide block on 26 major social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, WhatsApp and LinkedIn, after they failed to register with the Ministry of Communications within a seven-day deadline. Acting on a Supreme Court directive in a contempt case, internet providers were told to restrict access until compliance. Nepal’s 2080 Directive mandates local registration, appointment of a contact person, and systems for user complaint handling. TikTok, Telegram, and Viber remain accessible as they have registered or are registering.
