Barcelona has actually confirmed Oriol Romeu's departure from the club, where he was a La Masia graduate before making his senior debut. The contract termination was a mutual agreement between Oriol and Barcelona. And Barcelona acknowledging his contributions and thanking him. The contract termination was also made to free up space on the wage bill to allow for the registration of new players, which was essential for the timely completion of the squad registration process (

It's possible he'll return to his former club, or even announce his retirement from football as a player. Well it all depends on Oriol's decision. I think his chances of playing are actually wide open to other teams. But they might not live up to his expectations.
It is sad to see players leave, but in order to grow you have to do that. Just like how they have sold Inigo to Al Nassr. They are rebuilding, they have bunch of great young players at the club, and they do not want older players and trying to sell them. They probably tried to look for a team to sell Oriol too but obviously failed, so the best way was mutual termination and not like he would get that many minutes even if he stayed.
It makes more sense to do this, so they can register their new players and new transfers. This Arabian league thing is good for these big clubs, they can sell their older players for a lot, and register their new players thanks to that. I wonder when Barcelona will recover from the debt, but looks like not anytime soon.
