In terms of competing with Real and Barça, I think Villarreal’s chances are reduced to 0%. Their best possible position is 3rd — their squad depth is questionable, and competing on multiple fronts is tricky for most teams.
That said, I do believe Villarreal will be among the best 24 teams to qualify for the Champions League playoffs. And from that perspective, I still don’t see how they can keep up with Real and Barça over the course of the season.
