CEX and third party platform are the only way the government can really have some level of Control on Bitcoin.
Soon they might even go into stating self custody is illegal.
I currently feel sorry for those living in the UK. Privacy is becoming like a fairytale story.

No. Only on CEX. The government have no control over your non custodial wallet or hardware wallets. They just did what we all thought they are thinking deep inside - more control, less chit-chat about staying out of taxes / KYC, and so on
