i hav a wallet.dat file which has a form of code that i dont underwtand, its more in the form of symbols than lettrs or digits
There's no such thing as the miners will know if you access your wallet. Nobody can figure out if you still have access to your coins or not.
Only if you make a transaction from your wallet and if that address is known to someone then they can find out that you have made a transaction.
So if you have the password in form of a QR then try accessing the wallet with that password or try importing the wallet.dat file first.
Verify if you have any coins left in the wallet. Note that, it might take some time for the wallet to sync and have the wallet open for some time.
Do not import the wallet in a computer which you actively use because your computer might be infected and can possible lead to your coins getting hacked.
Try importing it in a rarely used computer/laptop by making sure that your computer is not infected with any malware.
