The majority of people consider bitcoin as an investment asset and they Hodl their coins for a long run.
This is the part that hà given Bitcoin its biggest break, though not the reason Satoshi set it up. A vast majority of us here wouldn't have been interested in Bitcoin if it weren't its speculative asset nature that we've come to associate it with. Those who want to argue this can go ahead to do so but I'm sure deep within them they know it's the undiluted truth.
The other who consider it a currency keep it for their transactions and some business also accept Bitcoin as a means of payment.
If that were Bitcoin's major purpose in today's world and reality, that purpose would've been defeated. Many cryptos are able to do this now, even at very low charges with transaction speed faster than Bitcoin. Businesses accept many other cryptos too.
