i found a research which identified four psychological traits contributing to risk for problem gambling. these are the four Es: escape, esteem, excess and excitement.

escape: when people try to find an escape from stress and all their other problems through gambling, more problem arises and addiction happens
esteem: when people try to find their value through materialistic things and wins in gambling, addiction happens
excess: when people gamble excessively, that is when addiction happens
and excitement: people get excitement from gambling and they no longer know how to stop and that's when addiction happens

this is my understanding of the four Es. do you agree or no?
Yeah man those es you mentioned hit really hard because they reflect how gambling isn’t really about the game itself but what people are trying to get out of it and if you look around in any casino or even online you can almost see each of those traits playing out in different people some are clearly running away from problems some are puffing up their self worth with a win some can’t stop once they start and some just live for the thrill it creates a cycle that’s really hard to break, and on top of that when you mix in my version like entitlement or envy it gets even more toxic because people start to think the world owes them luck or they’re constantly comparing their wins and losses to others which only fuels frustration and more reckless bets that sense of emptiness is another dangerous one too because if gambling becomes the only thing filling that gap then nothing else feels enough and chasing euphoria is basically running on a treadmill it feels great in the moment but it never lasts and people end up stuck trying to get that feeling again.

All in all whether it’s your four es or mine they really show how gambling addiction isn’t just about money it’s deeply tied to psychology and emotion and that’s what makes it so tricky to deal with.
