Atletico Madrid players didn't look like they were fighting to lose this match. Their style of play made it seem like they were destined to win. They saw the match against Real Madrid as an opportunity. Their poor performances in previous matches of the tournament against relatively small opponents did not reflect that at all in this match. Atletico played so dominantly that they probably forgot that they were playing against one of the best teams of the season. Real Madrid defeat marked their first defeat. Alonso will learn a lot from the team error and will continue to improve.
I personally underestimated Atletico Madrid in that match. I believed before the match started that Real Madrid would win. But the reality was beyond my expectations. Even the scoreline was very surprising. A 5-2 scoreline didn't look like Atletico Madrid facing one of the strongest teams in La Liga.
Atletico Madrid truly looked like a team that had already identified the weaknesses in Real Madrid's defense. And I'm sure Real Madrid are starting to experience a decline in defense again after Trent's injury. Yes, Alonso has a lot to learn from this result.
