Doesn't anybody beside me think that the hidden purpose behind AI hysteria is to use its computing power to pierce cryptocurency hashrate armour?

Before we dive into technical stuff, you should know that market cap of company that offer AI service[1] is much bigger than current Bitcoin market cap (around $2.2T when i write this post). The market cap doesn't include private company such as OpenAI that estimated to have $300B valuation[2].

AI would need to know, how to count.

I didn't mean AI would do this, somebody could just reprogram GPUs used for AI to attack cryptocurrency.

1. If you mean 51% hashrate attack, it's not applicable to Bitcoin since GPU is far less efficient than ASIC for SHA-256 operation.
2. There are some BTC mining software that still support GPU usage. So no reprogram or writing new program is required.
3. If you look at https://whattomine.com/, many GPU-mineable coin already have small market cap. You can destroy those coins without massive amount of GPU owned by AI company.
