What do you think? Is betting on the “rig side” actually an effective strategy, or just an excuse when people lose using stats?

I think it's difficult to bet on "distorted" odds in sports itself, because, yes, organizers are often interested in reducing the gap between the favorite and the underdog and take measures to do so (like salary caps, minimum budgets for clubs, etc.), but all these measures are reflected in the odds. You can't make a profit here. But sports-related events like the Ballon d'Or are suitable for this. We've all seen that there's a significant degree of corruption here, so it makes sense to bet on the side where the manipulators are playing.
