I think what would be better, assuming he wins this next race (or at least gets a prize), is a form of "staking" him like a poker player. Crowd source the funds to pay for the race. If he wins something, it is paid back to the stakers, with x% given to him and x% given to charities. It'd be a way to let people profit on it, while at the same time supporting charity and the driver himself.
